This case study demonstrates how structuring processes and implementing a functional visual system were fundamental to elevating the operational maturity of The Brazilian Report. What began as a tactical engagement evolved over two years into a systemic solution that prepared the newsroom for major challenges, such as the coverage of the presidential elections.

The Evolution: From Execution to Creative Framework
This project was the result of long-term building and a deep understanding of the newsroom’s internal needs. After two years as a Designer and Multimedia Producer, the transition to Creative Lead in 2022 brought the opportunity to organize internal initiatives. At the leadership’s request, we structured a branding and design system project that served as a foundation to professionalize and scale the work developed up to that point.
The Solution: Design System and Team Empowerment
More than an aesthetic shift, the intervention focused on resolving operational bottlenecks in a practical and continuous manner:
-
Design System on Canva: We implemented a modular system focused on day-to-day agility. By creating accessible templates and components in Canva, we provided the Social Media and Journalism teams with the tools to operate with speed and autonomy, ensuring visual quality even in the frantic pace of breaking news.
-
Collaborative Construction: The project’s success was a team effort. The initiative relied on direct support from design and social media staff, ensuring the system responded to the actual needs of those managing content distribution daily.
-
Established Institutional Identity: In parallel, we consolidated a specific communication style for awards, campaigns, and product launches. This standardization created a recognizable “visual voice” that strengthened the brand’s perceived authority.
Gradual Impact and Long-Term Results
Results were achieved through a combined effort, where design acted as a silent and efficient facilitator:
-
Operational Efficiency: Identifying bottlenecks and offering ready-to-use tools allowed the team to respond quickly to events, eliminating the need for constant micromanagement of every piece produced.
-
Reach and Engagement: Growth on social media reflected the collective work of the team, empowered by an organized visual base that allowed for a higher volume and consistency of publications.
-
Brand Consolidation: The institutional identity moved away from fragmentation to transmit the solidity required for a publication that is now an international reference and an EPPY Awards winner.
